TaskTree is a task tracking app created to help people with ADHD. The app has been an incredible social experiment that is ever evolving over the past few years as it has been built in the public eye, taking live user feedback from social media comments. In this most recent iteration, I was tasked to illustrate a series of birds with interchangeable parts as part of a game being added to the app.

Birds & Traits

The way the game works is that by completing tasks, you gain hearts that lead you to collecting new birds for your tree and earning traits to make your birds look more unique. The challenge was to find a way to allow for interchangeable features that would keep the birds looking unique yet cohesive.

A base bird was designed to house all of the interchangeable traits.

Boxes containing the various body styles for the birds, including a pidgeon, parakeet, bluebird, cockatiel, Robin, Puffin, Dark Mode, a celestial.

A series of traits were created, patterns were given multiple color ways to add further customization.

Experimental Designs

After settling developing the original system, we worked to experiment with designs with more complexity, starting with adding longer necks to the birds, then adding more detail, and even different types of creatures with the same base.

A base with a longer neck was created, allowing us to create a larger variety of birds and creatures.
